"As I was walking home from the Inn late one night, I saw a homeless man on the sidewalk sleeping on nothing but a piece of cardboard with only blanket to cover him. Not only was it chilly out, but also his chosen spot did not look comfortable by any means.
The sight of this man's predicament made me think about how I have always taken having a place to sleep for granted. My life could be just the same as his if I was raised in different circumstances, had I experienced some great loss, or gone through some grave trauma. When I compare any struggles or difficulties of my own to just one of this man's problems, namely, not having any place else to sleep, I come to the realization that I have been very blessed. After all, he has to contend with the elements and worry about his safety every night he sleeps in exposed areas. On the other hand, the only thing I have to worry about when I go to sleep is whether I should turn down my fan or not. When it's all said and done, I see now that I have been living "the good life" as one of our guests put it.
